Albert Einstein

Albert Einstein was born in Ulm, Germany, in 1879. In 1903, Albert Einstein started working in a patent office in Zurich. Einstein began publishing papers in academic journals about physics and science. He discovered that light was a particle and in 1905 after finishing his thesis he was awarded a PhD.

His big break came later that year, when he started publishing papers about special relativity, the photoelectric effect and the equivalence of mass and energy which where to bring him to the notice of the academic world. He became a physics professor and finally, in 1921, he won the Nobel Prize in physics.

When Hitler came to power in 1933 he emigrated to the United States of America because he was Jewish and started working at the Institute of Advanced Studies in Princeton where he lived for the rest of his life. He died in 1955 at the age of 75.

Are you in favour of home schooling?

In our area, few people do home schooling, not to say anybody. I’m usually against it except when the person who does home schooling lives very far away from any school or can’t go to an average school because of his/her mental or physic state. But although I’m expressing my opinion here, I don’t personally know anybody who does home schooling.

In my opinion, home schooling is a bad system because, although the children may learn the same as if they were at school, they won’t learn how to relate to other people of their age or how to make friends. In the future, home scholars may have social problems because in their life, mainly, they haven’t been with other people besides their family and their tutor.

Anyway, home schooling has its perks. The tutor can be a better teacher than the school teachers and the child will be more concentrated in lessons because he is the only student.

So all in all, I think that home schooling is not a very good idea and it’s better if people go to a public or private school.

Primer

I'd like to recommend a film I've recently seen, called Primer. The film’s director is Shane Carruth and the main actors are Shane Carruth and David Sullivan.

It’s an indie science fiction movie about time travel, faith, friendship, the difficulty of controlling power and the actual science perspectives. The main characters are two friends that during a normal day discover the principles of time traveling (loosely explained). They start using time traveling to know which shares are going up in the stock exchange market but after all they feel like they should use time travelling to do something more and they discover that it's a power unable to be controlled.

The best thing about the film is the plot and the calm way it's faced to the public: there is no action and all the time its just people talking. I really liked the film and it's probably in my top ten favorite movies but the whole film in itself was almost impossible to understand, because pretty much nothing happens during the whole plot apart than two man talking I would only recommend it to someone who likes dense and confusing stories.

All in all, it's one of my favorite films despite being difficult to understand, which is actually done on propose. I recommend it to anyone who likes science fiction but you'll probably have to see this movie twice to understand it.

Dear Sir or Madam,

I represent a group called “A green world”. I am writing to you because we are concerned about plans to build a motorway in the Parc de la Draga.

In our opinion, el Parc de la Draga is a very important place to our town it’s home to many animal species and apart from it’s beautiful landscape it’s used for many other reasons such as sport or for special acts. By building a highway in the park, we are destroying a home to many types of life and we’re losing a very important part of our town. Also, by building a motorway we will help pollution.

We have therefore decided to take action, and we are going to start a boycott against the highways of the enterprise which will destroy our park. For this reason we are sending you a poster and some memos for you to publicize our campaign to your clients. We hope that you will support us and save el Parc de la Draga.

Yours faithfully,

Enric To Gassiot

The Godfather

The Godfather are a series of movies known as some of the best made in history. They've been directed by Francis Ford Coppola (Apocalypse Now, The Conversation...) it starrs some of the best American actors like Al Pacino, Marlon Brando and Robert de Niro. It includes great camera shooting astoundishing music and a incredibly good script. The God father tells us the story of an Italian màfia family. The first movie presents us how mafia's work with Vito Corleone (Marlon Brando) as the head of the family and how his son, Michel  Corleone (Al Pacino), ascends in power. The second tells us of the origins of the mafia with Robert de Niro acting as young Vito Corleone. The last film shows how the mafia falls and starrs Sofia Coppola. The movies have won many awards including the Academy's best Picture and Director awards.

My last summer vacation

As usually we do a oral presentation about our last summer. Here you have the video. The writing will be uploaded in a short period.

The last movie I've seen

The last movie I've seen is called Doctor Strangelove. It's one of the first films by Stanley Kubrik (the director of 2001: odyssey in space, the shinning and clockwork orange) and the movie was in black and white. In the cast there's the famous comedy actor Peter Sellers, who interprets three diferent characters. The movie is a critical view about the cold war. So I should tell you a bit about the plot: in the film, an American army general decides to order some planes to attack Russia with atomic bombs accusing comunists to have poisoned water. He also shuts down all comunications in the military base and tells his men to shoot anyone who comes closer than five miles to the base. The planes' radio system has a password (wich only the general knows) so nobody can contact them either. The president of the U.S.A, the ambassador of Russia, a German scientist called Dr. Strangelove (Peter Sellers) and other high rank officials will have to find a solution to a closer coming nuclear catastrophe.
